A “dynamic team” and children making “rapid progress” have made Nursery on the Green in Southall one of the best early learning centres in the country.
The day nursery in Thorncliffe Road has just been rated Outstanding by Ofsted - which is achieved by only 15 per cent of all English early years providers – sparking celebrations amongst children, staff and parents.
Dee Townsend, Nursery on the Green Manager said: “My colleagues are talented and committed to giving each child the very best start in life, and we are fully and enthusiastically supported in this by our parents. This team work over many years has made this nursery outstanding; that Ofsted has made it official is absolutely wonderful,” she said.
The Ofsted inspector, in her report, noted that all children, including those with special needs or English as an additional language, make outstanding progress at the nursery; a fact emphasised by parents who spoke extremely positively about their experiences.
“Teaching is consistently of a very high standard and responsive to individual children’s needs and interests. Staff provide children with an exceptional range of activities and experiences,” she said.
Activities include an allotment initiative involving grandparents and ‘nursery gardener’ supporting children in planting, tending and harvesting herbs, vegetables and flowers.
“These activities not only promote healthy lifestyle messages and respect for the environment but children are also learning maths, science, problem-solving and teamwork as they go,” said Dee.
