Children at Bright Horizons Elvetham Heath Day Nursery and Preschool in Fleet, Hampshire celebrated National Hippo Day on 15 February by learning more about the animal.
The children were told facts about hippos, including that their skin is 15cm thick and teeth are 40cm long. They then looked at a selection of photos, as well as their own toys, to draw their own conclusions about features of the animal.
“The children were very excited to learn more about hippos as they always enjoy discovering more about different animals,” said Nursery Manager Toni Kirby. “The also took part in a mark making exercise using muddy water, to imitate the hippos who are always muddy due to their natural habitat.”
