‘Flipping’ good fun for Welwyn children on Pancake Day

For one day only children at Sycamore Day Nursery in Welwyn were not only allowed to play with their food - they were actively encouraged to do so for Pancake Day.

The children made their own pancake mixture and selected from a range of toppings, helping to design their own flavours. The preschool children have also learnt about the origins of Pancake Day and Shrove Tuesday. Pancake making marks the beginning of Easter themed activities at the Ofsted rated Outstanding nursery.

Sycamore Manager Carol Kewley explained that pancake making was a popular annual occasion at the nursery providing endless crafting and learning opportunities with a big serving of fun added to the mix.

“We celebrate many different religious and cultural festivals during the year at Sycamore and usually there is a tasty food or treat included in the activities. Pancake Day allows children to get creative with ingredients whilst learning the principles of following a recipe,” she said.
