Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries is lending its support to the global Safer Internet Day campaign launched today (Tuesday 7 February).
Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, Safer Internet Day is launching with the theme ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’.
Celebrated in over 100 countries, Safer Internet Day will see Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries join hundreds of organisations right across the UK and globally to ‘be the change’ and help create a better internet by committing to communicating as far and as wide as possible, relevant messages to ensure children are safer online.
As part of the campaign Kiddi Caru has sent Internet Safety Packs featuring lots of different information and leaflets to all their families and carers. This is an ongoing programme of activity and will see the company promote its commitment to a safer internet on its website and through all its social media platforms. The new Internet Safety packs will also form part of any induction paperwork for potential new families and carers.
Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries already embed internet safety across all of their nurseries. They work with the children to give them an understanding that the internet is a powerful tool with a wealth of information to support learning, but also to gain insight that not everything online is real and it is an additional resource to the ‘real world’.
The nursery has introduced the book, Digiduck’s Big Decision, which is a brilliant resource about friendship and responsibility online. Reading this at story time is a fun way of getting an important message across. The story has been transformed into a fun tablet app that parents can download for free.
Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries also promotes the philosophy that spending time on the internet should be a shared experience similar to a lot of other activities like reading a book together. This ensures that any questions from inquisitive minds about the online world can be answered appropriately.
Will Gardner, Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre and CEO of Childnet, said: “Safer Internet Day is an opportunity for everyone across the UK and globally to unite for a better internet. Whether you are a young person, parent, carer, school or organisation, we can all ‘be the change’ and take positive actions to make the internet a better place. Hundreds of schools and organisations have pledged their support for Safer Internet Day and it is this collaboration that helps ensure Safer Internet Day has such a positive impact, reaching 40% of UK children in 2016 and growing year on year.”
Caron Moseley, Marketing Manager at Kiddi Caru, said: “We at Kiddi Caru are active users of the internet and social media and as one of the first day care nurseries along with other organisations to join the campaign in the UK, this reflects our commitment to making sure our children and their families have as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions. Our Internet Safety Parent Packs are just the start and there may indeed be some parents who feel that it is not relevant at this stage of their little one’s lives, however we passionately believe that educating from an early stage responsible use of the internet, is key.
“Our aim is not just to reach out to our children and families that attend our nurseries about the safe use of the internet, but further; our staff teams, our own extended families and network of friends who may have children of all ages right up to 18-year-olds. The activities that we have put in place lay the foundations for later on in our children’s lives and more so with the use of social media.”
