Children at Bright Horizons Elvetham Heath Day Nursery and Preschool in Fleet, Hampshire took part in their own spaghetti day on 3 January to improve their number recognition, in an activity part of the organisation’s Growing Mathematicians enhancement.
The children used pieces of spaghetti and manipulated them into shapes to make the numbers one to 10. It was an activity that also enhanced the children’s fine motor skills.
“The children’s number recognition is strong and we were pleased they were able to manipulate the pieces of spaghetti into numbers so quickly,” said Nursery Manager Toni Kirby. “It was a great way to continue the Growing Mathematicians enhancement.”
The Growing Mathematicians enhancement emphasises the importance of mathematics in the everyday lives of the children.
