Pre-schoolers in Pennypot Day Nursery, Chobham have been busy writing to their new ‘pen pals’ in Belgium.
The children used a ‘talking and thinking floor book’ to design and think about what they wanted to talk to their Belgian friends about. They were given the opportunity to ‘write’ down questions to ask as well as deciding what they wanted to take photographs of to send to them.
The children selected their favourite areas of their room and ‘wrote’ about their favourite activities at the nursery in Pennypot Lane.
Nursery manager Jane Waterhouse described the scheme. She sai: "‘This is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn more about the wider world. A ‘pen pal’ scheme is a great introduction to thinking about how children in other countries experience the world. It helps to foster cohesion as well as the appreciation of different cultures and practices. It also helps inspire self-reflection as children ponder their own environments and personal preferences."
