Children and staff at Bright Horizons St Mary’s Day Nursery and Preschool in Hulme, Manchester have celebrated the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl, in a day dedicated to the life of the author.
The children brought in their favourite books to share with each other, as part of the organisation’s Growing Readers programme, and took part in themed activities such as making beards like The Twits.
“All the children thoroughly enjoyed the day, in particular reading all of their favourite books to each other,” said Stephanie Ruddock, nursery manager. “Roald Dahl has had a huge influence on their young lives and the children are looking forward to finding more about him and his work as we move forward.”
The Growing Readers programme emphasises the importance of reading aloud and aims to cultivate a love of books.
