Children at Bright Horizons Crewe Day Nursery and Preschool have been studying penguins and how their skin remains dry amidst a damp climate.
The children conducted an experiment, as part of the Bright Horizons Growing Scientists programme, whereby they coloured a penguin picture with wax crayons. They then sprayed water onto the picture and watched to see how the picture stayed dry throughout, similar to a penguin's coast which is very much like wax.
"The children were amazed to see how the picture remained dry after it was sprayed with water," said Nursery Manager Claire Chadwick. "The experiment really captured their imagination and they are keen to learn more about the animals of our world."
Bright Horizons’ Growing Scientists programme aims to help children identify scientific activities in everyday life.
