Children at Bright Horizons Nursery on the Green in Frimley Green, Surrey, have harvested the fruits of their labour as part of the organisation’s Green Gardeners programme.
The children have been busy picking fruits and vegetables from the nursery garden including tomatoes, runner beans, celery, courgettes and carrots. The children planted the seeds earlier this year and have been nurturing and watering the crops to learn about where their food comes from.
The produce has now been given to the nursery chef who has used the ingredients as part of the children's nursery meals.
"The children have showed great enthusiasm in harvesting their own fruit and vegetables," said Nursery Manager Lynsey Gardner. "We were all delighted to see such positive results and aim to continue our education on the benefits of growing fresh produce."
The Green Gardeners programme aims to encourage children’s interest in the natural world around them.
