There wasn’t a dry eye at Cedar Park day nursery as the staff said goodbye to their graduating class with a ceremony and garden party.
The 30 graduates of the nursery in Bridge Farm Road, Twyford, who wore special gowns and ‘mortar board’ hats they had crafted for a commemorative photograph, collected certificates and a framed photo cheered on by parents.
Cedar Park manager, Freda Yates, explained that the leavers party is always an occasion for mixed emotions. She said: “Everything we do here is focused on sending happy, confident and fully prepared children in to mainstream schooling. We are celebrating that today but saying goodbye to children we have looked after since they were babies is very difficult."
For parents too, the farewells were emotional as for some the graduation of their youngest child meant it was an end of an era.
Nursery chef, Sally Mockford, prepared a picnic tea of the children’s favourite foods and created a beautiful graduation cake for the party.
