Ladbroke Grove students create recycling centre

Children at Bright Horizons Ladbroke Grove Day Nursery and Preschool in Notting Hill, London have created their own recycling centre at the site after learning about the benefits of the process.

In a week dedicated to learning about what is involved in looking after the environment, the children spoke about the effect of global warming and how it impacts our everyday lives.

Children were asked of their knowledge of recycling, at which most confirmed that they do recycle at home. A recycling story explained the different materials that can be recycled including paper, glass, cardboard, wood and metals.

An explanation was given on how to separate recycling items and sort them accordingly. Boxes were then placed at the nursery recycling centre for the children to use.

Children were asked to label the boxes and will decorate them in the weeks ahead.

“We are very proud of the recycling centre that the children have helped us to create at the nursery,” said Nursery Manager Sandra Smith. “Recycling is crucial in the modern day, due to the impact of climate change and global warming. Therefore it is important the children are taught about the benefits of recycling and get them involved in the process from an early age.”
