Preschoolers and staff at Windermere Day Nursery are celebrating after being rated one of the best early learning centres in the country for a second time.
Balloons, banners and bunting decorated the day nursery in Haweswater Road for a party to celebrate another top Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating - which is achieved by only 15 per cent of all UK Early Years providers – following a surprise inspection.
Windermere Manager, Jacky Bufton, who was praised for strong leadership, said:
“I am so proud of my wonderful team and what they have achieved, and absolutely delighted that parents went out of their way to support us on the day. This more than anything shows the commitment we all have to providing each and every one of our children with the best possible start in life and a smooth transition to mainstream schooling and life-long learning.”
The Ofsted inspector described staff as nurturing and caring; excellent role models who empowered children, and that the quality of teaching was of a consistently high standard.
'All children, including those who speak English as an additional language and children who have special educational needs or disability, make high rates of progress,” said the inspector, adding that all enjoyed lots of fun at the nursery.'
The nursery introduced the ‘Mantra Lingua’ system at the end of last year which makes books, posters, stickers and cards in nursery ‘talk’, with the aid of special stickers and ‘talker pens’, to support children with English as a second language, and introduce others to another language. Assistant Nursery Chef, Pauline Brannigan, prepared a celebratory tea party to include all the children’s favourite foods like pineapple upside down cake.
“While we have a number of celebrations planned to mark this wonderful achievement, we will continue to look for ways to improve our children’s nursery experience and ensure it is always outstanding,” said Jacky Bufton.
