The team at Kiddi Caru’s day nursery in Redhill took part in training recently to enable them to deliver inspiring Music & Movement sessions to the children in their care.
Music & Movement is one of the all inclusive activities provided by Kiddi Caru nurseries and as well as being a fun activity it also aids a child’s development in a number of ways, including awareness of sound, memory capability, expression of emotions, self esteem, maths skills and also physical and language development.
The training was tailored towards giving the staff the confidence, resources and ideas for using music as part of every day activities within the nursery. They were given guidance on how to help children experiment with every day objects and recycling materials to explore the different sounds they can make and also how Music & Movement can be about much more than simply enjoying a song – for example arts and crafts can also be incorporated. The training linked back to all areas of EYFS and also to strengthening parent partnerships, as activities can easily be replicated at home.
Helen Atkin, Nursery Manager, said, “There has been some real creativity on show since the team completed the training, for example they have been supporting the children in making a whole variety of shakers and drums out of recycling materials. The children have found the songs really easy to learn, enjoying the catchy beats and copying the actions and signs - it really is a joy to see these sessions in action and it is very clear that the children are already benefiting greatly from them.”
