The children and staff at Kiddi Caru’s Writtle day nursery supported the Snowflake Appeal run by Home-Start UK – the charity dedicated to supporting families with young children – with a week of snowflake themed fundraising fun last week culminating in a magical Christmas grotto on Saturday 5th December.
Throughout the week the children decorated snowflakes and held a snowflake cake sale. They and their parents were also invited to write a wish on the nursery’s tree in return for a donation to the appeal. In addition the staff turned the nursery’s reception area into a wonderful winter wonderland. At the grotto the children went on a sleigh ride to see Father Christmas, made reindeer food, Christmas cards and decorations and listened to Christmas stories.
Snowflake Appeal merchandising such as enamel pin badges, gift tags and Christmas cards were also available to purchase from the nursery to help raise funds.
The Snowflake Appeal, which runs from 1st November to 31st January, is fronted by TV’s Kirstie Allsopp and was launched by Home-Start in 2013. Funds raised by the Snowflake Appeal help to ensure that Home-Start’s volunteers based at 300 centres around the UK have the training and support they need to continue to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children.
Jennie Gregory, Nursery Manager, said: “This year’s Snowflake Appeal was even better than last year and the children and staff all had a wonderful time throughout the week and at the Christmas Grotto. It is a great way to start the festive season while also raising funds for an extremely worthy cause. Our Winter Wonderland reception area is fantastic and we’ll be keeping this in place for a little while yet; we will all be sorry to take down the lovely sparkly lights!”
