The children and staff at Kiddi Caru’s Colchester day nursery supported the Snowflake Appeal run by Home-Start UK – the charity dedicated to supporting families with young children – with a week of snowflake themed fundraising fun last week culminating in a magical Christmas grotto on Saturday 5 December.
Throughout the week the children made snowflakes and snowflake biscuits and had a snowflake themed fancy dress day. In addition they helped the staff to turn the nursery’s reception area into a wonderful winter wonderland. At the grotto the children made snowflake tree decorations and marshmallow Father Christmas’s, played pin the nose on the reindeer and guess the name of the teddy and, of course, got to see Father Christmas himself. There were also lots of stalls selling gifts for those who wanted to do some Christmas shopping.
Snowflake Appeal merchandising such as enamel pin badges, gift tags and Christmas cards were also available to purchase from the nursery during the week to help raise funds for Home-Start.
The Snowflake Appeal, which runs from 1 November to 31 January, is fronted by TV’s Kirstie Allsopp and was launched by Home-Start in 2013. Funds raised by the Snowflake Appeal help to ensure that Home-Start’s volunteers based at 300 centres around the UK have the training and support they need to continue to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children.
Laura Evans, Nursery Manager, said: “This year’s Snowflake Appeal was even better than last year and the children and staff all had a wonderful time throughout the week and at the Christmas Grotto. It is a great way to start the festive season while also raising funds for an extremely worthy cause. Our Winter Wonderland reception area is fantastic and we’ll be keeping this in place for a little while yet; we will all be sorry to take down the lovely sparkly lights!”
