The children at Kiddi Caru’s Whiteley day nursery have been making their mark, using all manner of arts and crafts materials and natural materials to create artistic masterpieces.
The activity was organised by the nursery’s staff as part of a focus on Mark Making – which enables children to discover connections through using different resources to form a better understanding of ways of doing things. This in turn gives them more confidence with their spoken and written communication.
As well as creating art work the children were also given special Writer’s Packs - portable ‘kits’ of pencils, paper and other mark making materials that they can take with them anywhere in the nursery and garden area to use to practice their mark making skills on the go.
Kelly Jackson, Nursery Manager, said: “Mark Making is a very important part of a child’s development, as it’s vital that they are confident communicating their thoughts, ideas and needs. The staff thought the Writer’s Packs would be a great way of encouraging the children to practice Mark Making whenever and wherever they like, giving them more opportunities to develop these important skills.”
