The staff at Kiddi Caru’s Plympton’s day nursery are keeping their fingers crossed after one of their team was shortlisted for an award.
Kayleigh Willows, an Apprentice at the nursery has been put forward as Apprentice of the Year by training providers Acacia.
During her time at Kiddi Caru Kayleigh has learnt life, organization and interpersonal skills. In particular Kayleigh has shown great skills in ‘signing’. This is something that comes naturally to Kayleigh and she is able to hold the attention of a circle of children regardless of age very easily and competently.
Kayleigh has developed a high confidence level when working with the children and as such is a fabulous mentor. Working hands-on using her own initiative, Kayleigh’s presence in a room is in high demand.
Tracey Callan, Nursery Manager, said, “Kayleigh is what the ‘grow your own’ ethos is all about. Kayleigh came to Kiddi Caru at 16 straight from school. She didn’t get her expected grades and had applied for an apprenticeship.
“She has come from being a very quiet, shy, intimidated individual who lacked interpersonal skills and has now grown in confidence and has excellent practice with the children. It comes as no surprise to me that Kayleigh has been nominated for the Apprentice of the Year by Acacia Training.”
