It’s not every day that you get to meet a Tarantula called Maud or Merlin the Bearded Dragon, but the children at Kiddi Caru’s Basingstoke day nursery did just that recently when Zoolab dropped in and held one of its Mini Zoo workshops.
The children were fascinated by the story of the Zagaro, which is based on the tale of the Gruffalo, featuring Maud and Merlin along with a Corn Snake called Russian and Ziggy the rabbit. They also got to stroke and even handle the unusual creatures if they wanted to.
Suzanne Chilvers, nursery manager, said: “The children were mesmerised by Zoolab’s Mini Zoo creatures. They were not the least bit perturbed by the unusual nature of our visitors either – most of them happily stroked the snake and held the Bearded Dragon. I have to say Maud received more waves than strokes though. However, compared to me they were all very brave!”
