Children and staff at the Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Torquay have been awarded first prize by the RNIB and Walker Publishing for their efforts at fund-raising and for creating the best photography of their ‘Bear Hunt’ activity.
The event was held to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the book ‘We Are Going On A bear Hunt.’ Activities were tailored according to age group so that nobody missed out on the Bear Hunt fun. The main event was a fabulous teddy bear’s picnic for which the children all made hats and brought their favourite teddy bears.
The children also had fabulous adventures with cave building and creating their own bear hunt in the nursery’s garden. Everyone took part in a name the teddy competition and made their own bear ears. Parents and carers didn’t miss out on the fun either as children and staff made teddy bear biscuits that were given to mums and dads in the morning.
Each child donated £1 to help raise funds for the RNIB as part of the Bear Hunt activity week and the nursery raised almost £300 on behalf of the charity.
David Lord, nursery manager, said: “We had such a great week and really enjoyed our fund raising activities. This book is one of the seminal books for children. It is absolutely adored not only by children of all ages but parents and carers too.
“The RNIB has been working with the publishers of the book to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by visually impaired children and we have been pleased to be able to help contribute towards raising funds for this charity.”
