Award winning nursery group Kids Planet has added two more nurseries to its portfolio, in a sale facilitated by specialist childcare broker Redwoods Dowling Kerr.
The nurseries - Jeffrey’s Corner in Dukinfield, Cheshire and Jeffrey’s Corner in Springhead, Oldham - were sold to Kids Planet in the same month they came to market.
Jeffery’s Corner received competitive interest from a second group operator who also offered on the business. The nurseries are Ofsted rated Outstanding and provide care for children aged 3 months to 5 years, having been established since 2004.
This is the second time that Kids Planet has purchased a nursery through Redwoods Dowling Kerr, and the sale comes as part of the group’s on-going expansion.
Kids Planet CEO, Clare Roberts, said:
“We have our 10th setting due to open in October and three more nurseries due to open next year, which are a mixture of purpose built and conversions in the Greater Manchester area. We are always looking for acquisitions which would fit within our ethos.
“We plan to grow and develop the Jeffrey’s Corner nurseries further, building on the already high standards in terms of care and occupancy.
“We found Redwoods Dowling Kerr extremely professional at all times and they were always happy to do anything to ensure a smooth sale process. We will definitely use RDK in the future and are looking to grow and develop our nursery group with acquisitions and new nurseries over the coming years.”
Kids Planet has also recently appointed Lucy Hoban as Director of Early Years. Lucy is a fully qualified teacher and was previously Head of Early Years at St Vincent’s Primary School in Altrincham.
She will be based at the group’s head office in Lymm and will oversee the strategy for early year’s education across all Kids Planet Day Nurseries. Her role will include managing the EYFS curriculum, ensuring children are school ready and liaising with local schools to create a path for a smooth transition from pre-school to infant school.
Redwoods Dowling Kerr’s Director of Sales, Lucie Wright, added: “Redwoods Dowling Kerr is thrilled to have been able to assist Kids Planet with their further expansion, and to have sold these fantastic nurseries on behalf of our client.
“The Jeffrey’s Corner nurseries are brilliant examples of well performing nurseries with a strong management team, and we could have sold them several times over.
“Although the business attracted much interest and received two offers at the same level, the vendors were thrilled to sell to Kids Planet as they identified with the group’s culture. They believed that Kids Planet were the right people to build on the success achieved at the current settings.
“The vendors felt that Kids Planet’s ethos and practices were very similar to their own, and that in selling to a growing chain they could provide their current staff with new opportunities for local promotion.
“The sellers achieved the price they were looking for to and can rest assured that Kids Planet will take the business from strength to strength.”
