Footballer opens nursery computer suite

Middlesbrough footballer Seb Hines opened a new Information and Computing Technology (ICT) suite at Little Ladybirds Day Nursery.

The 24-year-old defender was the guest of honour at an open day staged at Little Ladybirds. His children Max, aged one, and Zachary, aged 2, attend the nursery.

Little Ladybirds is one of the first nurseries in Teesside to have a dedicated ICT suite, which includes a touch-screen computer, laptop, iPad, interactive white board, digital cameras and flat-screen television.

The aim of the suite is to give children access to computing technology at an early age so they are prepared when they begin school.

Seb said: “I was ten or 11 before I used a computer for the first time so it’s fantastic that children at the nursery are now being introduced to the latest technology at a young age.

“My two-year-old is already able to use an iPad and the more access children have to things like this can only be of benefit to them when they are older.”

Mel Hirst, Director of Teaching at Little Ladybirds Day Nursery, said: “Having a dedicated ICT suite like this in a nursery is very unique and the whole aim is to get the children learning to use resources that will be commonplace as they get older.

“The computing equipment, along with the digital cameras, CD players and remote control toys, will all further enhance the children’s learning experience at Little Ladybirds.

“We would like to thank Seb for performing the official opening, as well as Red Line Aviation Securities and Bondgate IT, who have supported the creation of the ICT suite.”
