Hitting the high notes

Stella Maris School's Infant and Junior choir took first and second places in Heaton Mersey Youth Festival's choral competition. The Junior choir came second in the under 11s competition and the Infant choir won a cup for coming first in the under 7s.

They sang five songs - Minka, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Scoo Be Doo Song, English Country Gardens, and A Spoonful of Sugar during their performance at St John's Church... and for the first time ever, sang in two parts unaccompanied.

The school's music teacher Mrs Shaw commented: "i'm so proud of all the children, they worked really hard and it's a great achievement."

The competition was adjudicated by Gaynor Keeble.

2012-2013 has been a great academic year for Stella Maris School Choir which also saw them perform at the Merseyway Shopping Centre's Christmas Lights Switch-On last November.

Heaton Mersey Youth Festival is a public platform for performance of music, song, speech and drama in a friendly, relaxed yet competitive environment within which a number of local schools and arts groups take part.
