Children at Treetops Nursery, Chesterfield Road, Matlock have been busy this week creating their own growing area where they can grow their own fruit and vegetables including potatoes, tomatoes and strawberries.
The tots are so enthusiastic when it comes to their weekly growing club which is run by the nursery chef, Lynne White. Every week the children learn about how things grow, tend to their crops and even sample the things they have grown as they are included in the nursery menus. Last week they enjoyed jacket potatoes they had grown themselves. They were all so proud and excited as they discovered them in the soil and plucked them out for their lunch!
This week the children have been planting some flowers they had chosen during their trip to Tansley Garden centre. Every day a chosen chief gardener has the chance to check the plants and flowers have all been watered.
Quotes: “I will make sure their watered so they can grow” said Will McCarthy 4 years.
“It’s like a fairy princess garden, it’s so pretty” said Brianna Ingley aged 4 years.
Sarah Knowles, Deputy Manager commented, “It’s such a lovely quiet area for the children to learn and be proud of their own achievements we are always looking at ways to expand their knowledge in the wider world”.
