A leading childcare company which has grown from one nursery to 13 settings across the UK in less than a decade has celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Sarah Steel, Managing Director of The Old Station Nursery, decided to host a staff-only event as a way to say thank-you to everyone who has helped the business flourish over the past decade.
Staff from across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire kicked off celebrations on Saturday 19th May at The Trident Centre in Warwick.
“We had a great day with 100 staff to celebrate our 10th birthday,” said Sarah, who founded the business in a former railway station in Faringdon, Oxfordshire in July 2002 after having difficulty finding childcare for her two young children after she left the army.
“Parenting expert Sue Atkins was a great guest speaker and shared some top tips with us about managing behaviour in both ourselves and children.
“This was not only a chance to get staff from across all the different settings together so they could network and share tips and stories, but also for me to show my thanks to everyone who works so hard for The Old Station Nursery. The 10th birthday is a real milestone for us and the celebrations were a huge success.”
As well as good food, team-building activities and speakers, a member of staff from each of the 13 settings was also chosen as a ‘rising star’ by their managers and awarded a certificate to commemorate their good work.
And Louisa Parish, Deputy Manager of the Wragby Road nursery in Lincoln, was given an extra special award from Operations Manager Rachel Attwood as the overall ‘rising star’ of the business.
“It came as a complete surprise to receive this award, but I feel very proud to have been chosen,” said Louisa, who started working at the Wragby Road setting in October 2004 and worked her way up to deputy manager by 2008.
“I was told that it was because I had unexpectedly had to step up to the manager role when my manager was poorly, which involved ensuring everything ran smoothly as well as looking at areas for improvement and keeping in touch with our Operations Manager. As well as a certificate I was also given a written testimonial about why I was chosen, which was lovely.”
The day was rounded off with everyone tucking into a very large train-shaped birthday cake based on the design of the company’s logo.
