Nursery managers can gain valuable information on how to prepare for the Olympic Games with a new factsheet from the National Day Nurseries Association.
The NDNA launched the factsheet after concerns were raised by members about the impact the Games could have on early years and childcare provision.
The factsheet focuses on challenges nurseries may face such as transport issues, reduced staff ratios or if technology fails.
Purnima Tanuku OBE, chief executive of the NDNA said: "The Olympics is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the world’s biggest sporting event in the UK. However there is no doubt that it will create a number of logistical challenges. This factsheet advises nursery owners and managers how to negotiate these challenges.
"Forward planning is the key, especially if you are based in London. I would advise nurseries to have policies in place regarding annual leave and late collections and to look at which members of the team can provide cover in the event of severe transport delays.
"Most nurseries have business continuity plans in place so it is a case of reviewing and extending these plans to cover the disruptions which are expected during the Games.
"Nurseries should also remember that the Games offer a fantastic to opportunity not only to promote children’s understanding of exercise and a healthy lifestyle but also to help children learn about other cultures."
