Looking back at 2011 we would like thank all of our supporters for helping our Foundation make a difference to the lives of children and families in crisis.
During the course of the year over £45,000 was raised from activities as diverse as marathon runs, a mountain climb, sky diving, an art exhibition, a sponsored pyjama walk and many more.
These funds enable us to work with local community agencies to create Bright Spaces©, rooms or garden areas in homeless shelters and temporary housing facilities where children and families can play, learn, have fun and most of all feel safe. We opened 4 new Bright Spaces in 2011, bringing our total to 14, and will be opening more in early 2012.
Additionally, we awarded 10 Volunteer Grants to charities and organisations actively supported by Bright Horizons employees. We are very proud of tremendous local community involvement which so many of our Bright Horizons family undertake, and celebrate this through our Community Champion awards which this year recognised 52 individuals volunteering for the Salvation Army, local hospitals and hospices, youth organisations and health charities.
As 2011 drew to a close we were delighted to distribute over 500 seasonal boxes of gifts for children at homeless shelters across the country. Throughout the year we also provide welcome bags of toiletry essentials donated by our staff, for mothers arriving at women’s refuges – a practical expression of support and comfort.
We look forward to making a difference to even more children and families in 2012. All of this is made possible by the staff, children and families, clients and community partners with whom we work.
