A day of family fun marked the official opening of Derbyshire County Council’s latest children’s centre.
Bakewell and District Children’s Centre hosted a celebration day so local children and families could try different activities and meet staff.
The centre will offer a variety of services from the base in Granby Road, and other community venues, including:
• Messy play • Music makers • Baby massage • parent and baby/toddler groups • play sessions • holiday play schemes • positive play • adult education • parenting courses • family support • information, advice and guidance about other useful services.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Young People, said: “The official opening was a marvellous opportunity for children’s centre staff to meet local families and show them what is on offer.
“Children’s centres bring vital services for under fives – and their families – together under one roof at the heart of the communities where they are needed.”
Derbyshire County Council has 54 children’s centres. The authority works alongside partner agencies including JobCentre Plus, and Citizens Advice Bureau to provide help and advice.
