Description

As a nursery nurse you would work with children from birth to around five years of age, helping them to develop and learn. You will create stimulating learning environment that help the children grow their interpersonal and academic skills.

You will

  • Plan and evaluate daily activities and ensure all evidence is recorded to extend the child’s learning in line with Curriculum for Excellence and Pre-birth to three.
  • Interact with children in an age appropriate manner
  • Create Fun learning environments both indoors and outdoors
  • Encourage Language and Communication development
  • Feedback to Parents in a Professional and consistent manner
  • Ensure you adhere to all Policies, Procedures and Legislations within your environment
  • Ensure Safeguarding the children is core to all our activities
  • Work indoors and outdoors

Ensure your area is clean and tidy at the start, end and during the day. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Observe children and use these observations to plan appropriate learning experiences for the children in consultation with Children, Parents and other trained staff.
  • Deliver a high performance learning environment where all activities are planned, evaluated and recorded
  • Be a role model through delivering Excellence
  • Ensure all risk assessments, Daily Checks etc. required, are completed as appropriate
  • Ensure that all records to your continued professional development (CPD) are maintained, planned and courses are attended.

Operational

  • Ensure all areas are set up at the start of the day and cleared away at the end of the day, indoors and outdoors
  • Contribute to your Key Children’s profiles and ensure that they are updated real-time with their development and plans.
  • Ensure that all learning plans are fit for purpose.
  • Deliver Excellence within housekeeping and infection control.
  • Have a strong understanding of your key children, their individual needs and their behaviour.
  • Work in partnership with any external agencies (Such as speech development, Oral Health, Health visitors etc.) for the benefit of the children
  • Have a full understanding of the health & safety policy and to display a high awareness of safety standards at all times.
  • Encourage the children to participate in all activities such as Food preparation, Planning activities, development of new areas etc.
  • Have effective relationships with Parents, Colleagues and children.
  • Ensure all children are kept clean at all times.                         

Communication

  • Ensure that an environment of open communication exists
  • Ensure there are effective two-way communication methods between home and the nursery, ensuring everyone is kept informed of the progress of their child. `
  • Develop communication channels to ensure all relevant information is shared throughout the business
  • Positively improve the image of both the nursery and the company
  • Create an environment where feedback is welcomed and word towards solutions rather than blame.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • SVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • HNC or NNEB qualifications
