Main Purpose of Role:

To be a proactive member of a team who provides a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment in which babies and young children are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential. To offer full and practical support in the day to day running of the nursery where possible.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children attending the nursery.

  • To support the Nursery Manager to implement the EYFS curriculum ensuring stimulating and varied play

  • To fully support the key person system

  • Give support to other staff in the nursery

Main duties:

  • Provide a stimulating play rich environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all children and the activities are differentiated to ensure that needs of all children that attend are met

  • To liaise when necessary with the designated safeguarding lead to ensure children are fully safeguarded

  • Implement an effective positive behaviour policy, ensuring consistency and taking into account children’s levels of understanding and stages of development

  • Support the nursery induction through visits, selection of a key person role and settling in process

  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team

  • Work with and support parents and other family members with regards to their child’s development, both in the nursery and at home and ensure children’s individual needs are met

  • To attend out of working hour activities; training, monthly staff meetings, parent’s evenings, summer fayre, Christmas party etc.

  • To be flexible within the working practice of Nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery; preparing snack and meals, cleaning and washing.

  • To ensure that clean and hygienic standards are maintained at all times. This includes daily cleaning rotas, nappy changing and other nursery/housekeeping duties.

  • To be fully up to date with the requirements of the “Early Years Foundation Stage” and ensure that your practice meets and aims to exceed the requirements

  • To be proactive in the process of activity planning, child observations and development records on a regular basis

  • To maintain confidentiality about all issues related to children and their families; your own and other staff members issues and any other management or operational issues

  • To carry out any other reasonable additional duties as requested by your Room Leader or Nursery Manager from time to time

     

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Level 2 or 3 in childcare and above
