Role Profile

Role Title: Early Years Team Leader

Reporting to: Nursery Manager, Managing Director

Role Purpose: To supervise and be responsible for Early year’s practitioners, Early year’s Assistants, Early Years Apprentices and students

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of practitioners/Assistants, providing guidance, leadership and delegation
  • Adhere to the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage Welfare Requirements and Learning and Development guidance.
  • Work effectively as a team member; exhibit a flexible, positive and co-operative attitude.
  • Contribute to effective communication with the staff team in order to share tasks efficiently and utilise individual’s skills and development areas.
  • Understand boundaries of confidentiality and practice professionally within them at all times.
  • Assist team members in the identification, planning and implementation of activities and experiences for children following the EYFS framework.
  • Ensure current knowledge of My First Friends Day Nursery’s and other regulatory bodies Health and Safety policies and procedures, and action them at all times. Challenge others whose practice does not comply with recognised policies and procedures.
  • Staffing, you will manage a group of staff, organising break times and cover and dealing with any issues that arise.
  • Room meetings, you will hold regular room meetings with the staff working in your area and meet with other Room Leaders/Assistant Room Leaders to discuss problems and share ideas.
  • Ensure that records are accurate, legible and completed on time and shared appropriately.
  • Responsibility for the opening and closing of the nursery.
  • You may be expected to cover and assist with managerial duties in the absence of a manager including handling fees and dealing with any issues that arise.
  • Consistently ensure that each member of the staff team, the children and their families are valued and own practice is non-judgemental. You must challenge others whose practice does not comply with the Equal Opportunities policy and monitor immediate improvements.
  • Recognise the contribution of self development to personal, team and organisational aims.
  • To participate in on going training to further own knowledge and to share experience, and skills
  • To be able to work under own direction using initiative and the direction of Managers.
  • Ensure all children within My First Friends are actively safe guarded at all times, bringing to the attention of the Designated Safeguarding coordinator anything that gives you cause for concern.

  • You will be required to work in all areas of the nursery if and when needed.

  • To be a key person to a group of children, being the main contact for their parent/carer and being responsible for ensuring their individual requirements are met

  • Conduct regular reviews of the children’s development planning next steps of learning and liaising with parent/carer on a regular basis and more formally at twice yearly parent’s evenings.

  • To have knowledge on the Every Child Matters Outcomes and practice within the Early Years Foundation Stage framework

  • Attending to the children’s physical needs including nappy changing and toilet training, fostering their personal and hygiene skills

  • Supervision of meal times, preparing and serving meals and where appropriate the preparation of babies bottles.

  • Preparation, care, cleanliness of the nursery and the equipment, including laundry duties in the absence of the General Assistant

  • Ensuring Health and Safety is a priority and carrying out risk assessments where necessary

  • You will be expected to attend and contribute to regular staff meetings, parents’ evenings, open days and supporting the business in any extra activities that they carry out/partake in.

  • Identifying personal training requirements and discussing them with your Nursery Manager

  • Conduct staff Probationary reviews, Supervisions and annual Appraisals

     

The post holder may be required to perform other duties than those listed in the role profile for this post.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be level 3 qualified with at least two years’ experience in Childcare.
