At Children's Nature Nursery Durlston, each and every day, the child's learning flows between the classroom and the beautiful garden. From careful observations, the adults sensitively support, nurture and guide the children. In the garden, the children grow vegetables from seed, collaborate to create crafty masterpieces or use tools to make bird feeders. Big scale construction, den building, water play and endless creative projects develop their inquisitive minds.

Indoors, children’s creativity continue to flourish. Supported by visiting artists and rangers, the children select and use a variety of natural and manmade resources, clay, paints, pencils and crayons. Twice daily baking and helping to prepare the organic lunch and snacks ensures hungry tummies are satisfied. Didactic materials support children’s developmental pathways. This includes the development of fine motor skills, activities such as threading, pouring and sorting, understanding of size, shape and dimension, the concept of number and differentiating between sounds.

Stories in the cosy book corner and regular singing and music sessions are the building blocks of early literacy. Beyond the nursery in the great outdoors of the Durlston Country Park, children connect to nature during the 'Explorer Sessions' and 'Nature School'. They experience the seasons and range of weather, explore the fields and woodlands and learn about the animals and plants of this stunning habitat. Children's Nature Nursery at Durlston is the complete learning experience for your child.

This is an absolutely outstanding nursery, my three girls have all attended here from when it first opened 4 years ago and there is nowhere else in the area that compares to the facilities and care of the staff. The outdoor spaces that they have for the children to explore are amazing and the activities they do with children are well thought out and really help to develop their social skills and learning through play, the staff team are all very well qualified, trustworthy and really care about the children. The organic home cooked food is also a real bonus! Thank you to everyone for all your hard work, Swanage is a much better place for our future generations with you here!

Thank you for your kind words and your girls were a real pleasure to support through their early years.

Our daughter has been at the nursery from aged two until she was 4.5. She has had the most amazing start in life. She loves the outdoors, walks surprising distances and takes a real joy in finding wood lice. All of this comes from the fantastic outdoor life at the nursery.
The classroom has big doors which are always open onto the garden - and the children are equipped with proper wet weather gear to make the most of all weathers - so the children choose where to play. Each day the nursery go for a walk on the wonderful Durlston cliffs, to the meadow or the wood. They climb trees, spot dolphins and make dens.
It's not all about the "big outside" either. They cook most days, they have a visiting art teacher and our daughter made huge progress with her letters and numbers. The nursery staff are great - encouraging but not pushing the children, teaching manners but also respect and care for each other. It really shows in the behaviour of the children towards each other.

Thank you for your feedback and it is lovely to hear that you are pleased with the care we have provided your daughter. She has been a delight to teach and support through her Early Years journey and we wish her well at school.

This nursery is an amazing environment for children. My twin boys have loved going to the holiday club. They enjoy the outdoors, walking in the countryside is a favourite activity, so the nursery was an obvious choice. There are lots of creative activities too, painting and cooking.

I would definitely recommend Durlston Nature Nursery. My daughter settled very quickly due to the supportive and kind team. She thrived on being outdoors most of the time and being able to choose activities to join whether that be cooking, painting, gardening or much more! Her favourite thing of all being the nature walks and the globe. She is full of confidence telling me all about seasons, insects, woods, lighthouses, lifeboats, flowers etc. She's learned so much she wouldn't have in London.
