b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Nursery at Lewes New School is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3
Target of 4 positive Reviews (20 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 4 Target = 0.250
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I searched high and low for a nursery, I visited 9 in the local area before finally finding Lewes New School. Here the staff's primary focus is the children. In other nurseries, I'd visited staff were focused on physical tasks and providing a stimulating physical environment for the children but at the expense of truly meeting each child as a person in their own right. In one nursery the manager asked a child to show me a 'nice' drawing rather than continuing with what he was doing (creatively using two pens at once to create a vibrant pattern on the page).
At Lewes New School the teachers get down to the children's level, listen carefully to what the children are saying and magically interweave a thread between each child. They take the time to notice what the children are interested in, and rather than passing value judgments they share their own interest and enthusiasm. They ponder why certain things happen, giving children the time and space to come up with their own ideas.
