  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Heriot Hill Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.227 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heriot Hill Nursery is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 26.4 positive Reviews (132 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 26.4 Target = 0.227

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Our 2 sons have been at Heriot Hill since 2015 and 2017 respectively and he couldn't be happier with the nursery. The boys are in full time, 5 days a week but somehow there is always a great variety of things to do and the staff go above and beyond to ensure a stimulating, caring and happy environment. Each child is an individual and looked after accordingly and the staff are so competent, well trained and diligent. They really care about the children and their well-being. There's a huge focus on outdoor play and each age group has their own garden and each day fantastic homemade and healthy meals and snacks made by the resident Chef. Our boys love Heriot Hill and we're so grateful for the care they receive there.

Our two boys started attending Heriot Hill Nursery in autumn 2016 and spring 2017. We are so happy with staff and facilities there! Staff and management are brilliant; kind, professional, helpful and supportive!
Our boys just love the outdoor space and indoor activities; the messy play, drama and other classes are amazing! I would definitely recommend Heriot Hill!

My son has been attending preschool at Heriot Hill for the last 8 months and is always looking forward to his preschool days. the activities are varied and stimulating and he has learned a lot and become much more social.
I felt it initially took a while for staff to warm up to us but are now very sweet with him. The garden is great and the nursery rooms themselves are very spacious and have a lot to offer i.e quiet spaces, creative areas, role playing etc.

My son has been very happy at the nursery over the past 15 months. There is a real sense of commitment and community with the staff, exemplified by the low staff turnover, it's the same people there since my son started. Would have no hesitation recommending.

Excellent nursery and one of the very few in Edinburgh city centre with proper outdoor space for all ages.
Settling in sessions were all really well planned with plenty of engagement from staff and management. We are about to transition to next room/stage and this appears to be similarly well planned out.
Staff seem to genuinely care and turnover seems low. Staff make good use of learning journals but also happy to spend time each day with face to face communication.
Food is provided from in-house chef - good variety, nutritious and plenty for hungry busy babies!
The day rate of £52 is expensive but it appears to be roughly in line with the other nurseries in area. I do wish they could be a bit more flexible with swapping days - even if each child was allowed up to say 4 per year (space permitting and with booking in advance) rather than having to buy extra days if needed for one-offs.
Overall, still very happy we chose Heriot Hill.

We have consistently experienced excellence through the nurseries provision of fun, care, support, early years learning and transitions, throughout the time our child has been part of the community at Heriot Hill.

We feel the child care has always been outstanding and we have relied on the nursery's high standards and personalised approach towards our child's development. She has enjoyed forming relationships with all staff, friendships, experiences, stimulating learning, outside play (no matter what the weather), the varied menu of home cooked food. Specifically, recently our child has taken part in Pre-school group with the specialist Teacher. We feel she is being encouraged and is enjoying this nurturing curricular experience. She has thoroughly enjoyed Forest Schools sessions and Drama, amongst many experiences she has enthused about. We feel our child's transition to Primary has been a recent priority at the nursery.

We have recommended Heriot Hill Nursery to many of our friends.
