The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Willows Centre for Children is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Willows Centre for Children in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.716 for Willows Centre for Children is calculated as follows: ( (155 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.716

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.625 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willows Centre for Children is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 24 positive Reviews (120 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 15 Reviews ÷ 24 Target = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Willows are very understanding and flexible with regards to amending hours. They think of the child and parents before money and funding for the centre. Staff are caring and adapt to every child's need. They comfort the children when needed and encourage lots of independence. I can not thank Willow enough for the support they provide, not just to the children but to parents and family members.

Willows nursery is a good nursery in that the premises are always spotlessly clean which is good for the kids. Children are well looked after. Willows staff are so very professional in their work. Always polite towards parents they are so transparent in the way they carry out their duties. When you come to the Willow be assured to be welcomed with a smile. They communicate so effectively e.g briefing us about how our child spent a day in their setting. Very considerate and always understanding. Children are so happy to be at the Willows.

I would recommend The Willows centre to family and friends. Both my children have attended this nursery and have been very happy and gained so much confidence. They have both enjoyed all the activities provided. The staff are very friendly and organised when you drop off and collect the children. Update you very well with what's happened that day and problems are dealt with promptly. Just wish you could use the 15 hours funded hours in two days as a working mum this would benefit me.

Such a lovely nursery with fantastic staff that interact with all the children. Both my children have been to this nursery and they absolutely love it. I know that whilst I am working they are somewhere they love going and often there have been days when they don't want to come home! I can't fault this nursery and would highly recommend it.

Having researched many nurseries in the Portsmouth area, we finally settled on the Willows Centre for Children as the one for our young son. I have to say that even 18 months on, we haven't had any reason to doubt our decision. From the outset of our Son joining the 'Nest', we felt he had been fully supported in his development and progression. The regular meetings with key workers were very important to us and the work that goes into the recording of his learning journey. We were slightly concerned when he reached the age to be moved to the next level class. Our son struggles with too much change at once but the staff recognised this early on and ensured he was integrated slowly into the new group by spending short periods each day with known staff members. Within a short period, he was settled and happy in his new group and continues to grow as a little person. Thank you, Willows, for making it such a positive experience.

After being a parent to three sons attending this nursery, I will be very sad when my youngest starts school this year leaves Willows Centre for Children in the summer. This nursery has been a fantastic start for my children as they were helped with their development including speech and this nursery has given them the best start in learning life that I could ask for.

I find Willows Centre overall an excellent nursery. All the staff are very welcoming and helpful towards my little girl. Although I think the communication to the staff isn't too great. As I spoke to one with a problem and they sorted it. I then spoke to another and it hadn't been solved. I also found them very unhelpful when I asked to change hours/days etc.
But overall amazing nursery.

Margaret Dunford, Head teacher at Willows Centre for Children responded to this review on 17 Jan 2017:

Some of the children come to Willows to access specialist places funded by the Local Authority. Unfortunately, these are fixed sessions and not flexible. There are opportunities for parents to increase sessions using Daycare places when available.

Extremely happy with the care my son receives and how well he is doing whilst in the nursery.

Very happy. They have helped my child in so many ways and can feel happy leaving my child there knowing they can meet his needs and requirements, for example our child couldn't say many words and now able to say a lot more words than he did before. We wouldn't send our child anywhere else.

The care we receive from the staff at Willows is outstanding. Both my children go there. Mainly for my oldest, who has suspected Autism. They have helped her overcome so many obstacles that she faces and we are so happy she has a place there. She enjoys going there and all of the staff are so welcoming, approachable and willing to help in any way they can. They are all angels. Which is why I have my youngest in there as I would not feel comfortable with him anywhere else.

My daughter has attended Willows for 3 and a half years.
My opinion to start was it was a lovely nursery and the staff were amazing.
My opinion now has changed a lot.
The management are very unhelpful and disregard situations that should be followed up.
They are rude.
I have recently removed my daughter from the nursery because of being unhappy with how things are dealt with in which not one member of management was concerned as to why I was unhappy!
It's really gone downhill over the last couple of years which I think is a shame.
I think the management should be reviewed as many people I know who attend Willows are unhappy with the way things are dealt with.
