Abercorn Place is home to the Early Years children. A gracious listed Victorian mansion with its own private garden, Abercorn Place provides a wonderful environment where the youngest pupils can feel safe and secure.

From the age of 2 ½ children join the Nursery, where they follow the seven areas of learning laid out in the Early Years Foundation Stage, creating a strong basis for future education. Specialist lessons in French, Music, PE and Yoga are also introduced.

The Nursery is well-equipped, and includes areas for sand and water play, arts and crafts tables, a computer corner, construction area, and a home corner. A beautiful garden and playground provide opportunity for outdoor play and child-initiated outdoor learning.

Language acquisition is a key focus for pupils as they learn to communicate effectively with their peers and teachers. Games and activities are geared towards building strong vocabulary and syntax.

Developing warm working relationships between children and staff is a priority and provides reassurance for parents as their children are away from home, for possibly the first time.

The aim of the Nursery is that children will progress onwards with confidence, having discovered how to share, play, socialise and engage deeply in their learning.

From the September that they turn 3, children move up to Pre-Reception where they attend school for a full day and are taught in small class sizes by class teachers, specialist teachers and assistants. This progression through the Early Years Foundation Stage lays a solid foundation for the structure of school days ahead.

Throughout the Early Years, they encourage child-initiated learning in order to reflect the individual interests of children. Teaching is topic based and cross-curricular, with classrooms transformed to bring topics to life, further enhancing exploration and discovery.

Reviews

9.8 Abercorn School has a Review Score of 9.8 (9.803)

The Review Score of 9.8 (maximum of 10) for Abercorn School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Abercorn School in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.803 for Abercorn School is calculated as follows: ( (109 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.803

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abercorn School is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 11 Reviews ÷ 8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I am very pleased with the care and attention to each child's individual needs my daughter has received at Abercorn. She loves going to school every day and has made very close relationships with the other children. Abercorn also creates many opportunities for the parents to participate in school activities and organizes parents evenings and activities for the parents to form a community as well.

I'm extremely satisfied. My son started pre-reception last fall as a non-English-speaker, in a new city, new country and new home. Thanks to an amazing staff and excellent curriculum, he is now fluent in English, has adapted very fast and has gained so much self-confidence. He loves his teachers and new friends and is eager to go to school.
Thank you for the wonderful support you bring both to the children and the parents.

Abercorn School has great teachers/staff. The effort that the school puts into learning and environment making is at the highest level. After joining the school my child has never had a day where she did not want to go, if anything she is not a big fan of long vacations, due to the fact that she cannot attend Abercorn.

I have 2 children at Abercorn, one moving into Reception in September, the other Year 2. I have been overjoyed at the exquisite level of attention and education my kids have received there. The teachers are attentive, well trained and kind. The office staff are helpful, accommodating and also know the children well. While the school may not have the onsite facilities of others, they still give the children all the experiences and benefits of a larger school. The PE side is also fantastic with a dedicated and thoughtful team. Abercorn gets my family's highest recommendation.

Lovely nursery, very nurturing and caring. Both my children have loved the school.

Having watched his older brother, my youngest son was really keen to go to nursery. He ran in on the first day waving goodbye with a big smile on his face. What more can you ask for?

The school has a great community spirit and treat each child as an individual, academically challenging them to the best of their ability. Not just one size fits all which is the style of some London private schools.

As a parent, there is a lovely community spirit and I have met some wonderful people and made great friends. As children grow up it is great to have friends who you can share with but also turn to and ask questions.

The Headmaster is lovely, with children of his own, so understand parents. The children also clearly like him and he knows them each individually.

Abercorn school provides a very nurturing and wholesome environment for children just starting school and the teachers are extremely cooperative and very loving. My son had a wonderful time going to nursery there and is still continuing in the school, while my daughter is following in his footsteps this September as well.
I give them an A+ rating!!

Our daughter was already going to another nursery perfectly happily when we moved her to Abercorn in order to join her older sister who was in Year 1. But the nursery at Abercorn has been at another level entirely.
It has been a pure pleasure to see her so stimulated, happy and excited to be there, right from day one. We have been consistently impressed by the incredibly high standards of care, personal attention and effort on the part of the staff, and how much progress in learning and development our daughter has made.
We can't recommend the nursery highly enough.

Abercorn School had been a wonderful nursery for our son. The staff are friendly and dedicated, the classroom is lovely and has dedicated access to the garden.
The children are exposed to a variety of subjects (yoga, music, French, PE) during their daily routine and there is a focus on learning through play. Looking forward to being back for pre-reception in September!

Our daughter had a wonderful year at Abercorn Nursery.
She had enjoyed every hour of every day.
Coming from a different nursery where she was very happy we did not believe such an improvement would be possible. She learnt a lot too.
